So what does it mean to engage?
I like the word engage. You will find with us that we use metaphors a lot, as for us, they serve to help our audience to relate to what we are saying and to hopefully establish a more personal connection. For us this is not just business but it is personal.
To me engagement, evokes a memory of some 25 years ago, when I proposed to my first girlfriend and she said yes! It was exciting, it is passionate, it is creative, it is refining, it is connecting, it has multiplied impact. It has the connotation of longevity, of a long term commitment. It is about giving and receiving. It is about the offering and the acceptance of that offering. We have that same desire when we engage with our clients. In an industry today that is more about delivering a transactional experience, a quick win, a quick and “cheap” solution, we stand out as we are in this for the long haul. We are still connected and deliver services to our first client of some 9 years ago! When we say this is about strategic partnership and supporting each other through thick and thin, we mean it, we live and breathe it!
We have a unique approach to developing and deploying systems, for us we are less interested in the technical specification, more interested in the needs and processes of the users and what tools they need to serve their internal and external customers.
Engagement for us, starts at the top. We want to hear what the leadership need, what the organisation is hoping to accomplish, what is working today, where the roadblocks to success are, and what their ideal world looks like. What are your hopes and aspirations? When you got started in business, or when you took on a leadership role, what were you hoping to achieve? What is stopping you from getting there? What ingredient, if added to the mix would transform or accelerate your success and enjoyment? What would delight your customer?
How does it work?
From this strategic context we understand the broader goals and objectives and what the organisation is trying to achieve. We also what to get a sense of what systems you have in place today, we gather the spreadsheets, forms, reports, the documents, proposals, quotes etc and then have the “puzzle” pieces from which we can identify gaps or rough edges.
But before we get into solution mode, we want to meet with the day to day users of the current “system”, have a walk through of the process, understand what works for them, what is their ideal world, what would make their life easier? This is vital for us, as again it is an opportunity to engage, to relate to and understand the real needs, and to take into the real issues of their day to day interactions or engagements with their customers. We mix these meetings with key staff with online survey’s that speed up the process as well as provide an opportunity for anonymous feedback.
This is not just a “discovery” exercise as is common in the industry, it is an opportunity to relate and understand, but also to bring our experience to your situation, to proactively offer suggestions to streamline processes, to improve, educate and set the scene to move to a better outcome.
